A general family medicine practitioner is a doctor who specializes in caring for people of all ages and stages of life. They do not focus on the treatment of one disease or patient group, and are often the doctors that people see for their everyday ailments, like a cold or flu, yearly physicals, immunizations, and health screenings. When necessary, family practitioners will provide referrals for conditions that require the expertise and treatment of specialist of a specific medical field.
